My Eyes Have Been Opened

Last night I watched a movie (a political documentary called Freedom to Fascism, to be specific) with my roommate after holding a lengthy discussion with a neighbor about religion and politics.  We started the movie at 12:30 am, thinking we’d watch a few minutes to check it out to see what it was about, turn it off, then finish it at a later date. We were gravely mistaken.  We quickly became enthralled, amazed, shocked and even a little scared.

After having the veil of deceit lifted from our eyes over a period of the nearly two hour video, we just stared at each other in disbelief.

We finally went to bed around 2:30 am, but neither of us really slept.  We both stayed up with a burning desire to share the things we learned with anyone who would listen.

In all reality, our country is in more dire circumstances than we have been led to believe.  Our government is corrupt beyond belief.  We are being robbed, swindled and lied to.  We are being trained to live in fear of imaginary enemies supposedly lurking in the shadows of Washington’s closet.  We are being fed a steady stream of wishy washy propaganda and distraction to mask the path that those who run our country are blindly driving us down like a runaway stagecoach.  “What? The IRS is an illegal organization that has no reason to claim my property or hard earned money?  Hang on, I need to listen to Timbaland on my iPod.”

Whether you support Obama, McCain or none of the above; if you live in the United States of America, you must watch this video.  I kid you not.  We must take a stance.  We must educate everyone we know.  If we do not, all is lost. Our country, our lives, our freedom, our families will be trampled by a small group of consciousless, money-grubbing socialists intent on the destruction of everything we hold dear.

Please educate yourselves.  Please.

P.S. If this blog, or I ever disappear without an excuse, this post is probably the underlying reason.

I love a conspiracy as much as the next guy, but I wouldn’t get too swept up in all this stuff. Yea, we’re being lied to and manipulated every day by the government, corporations, and other organizations but I’m not ready to run for the hills. Sensationalism blinds people to real problems. It discredits the simpler truths.

The IRS is legal and the collection of taxes is supported by the 16th amendment.

“The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.”

Other claims made in the movie are similarly one sided in my opinion.

I am with Sam, it seems rather one sided. Kinda like Michael Moore. However, I am concerned about us being lied to, I find it strange that I told you about some of this stuff a couple months back and it made little impression on you. but watch it in a movie, and now it is legit… lol ;)

    That is an intriguing movie.

    Here is another one: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9050474362583451279
It is called “Money as Debt”, by Paul Grignon. If the link doesn’t work google Money as Debt. It is about 45 minutes long.

    More to think about

It shouldn’t be that strange that a few words from someone didn’t have much impact, but that a video did. Videos are a powerful medium for communicating ideas.

And yes, sensationalism can blind people, which is what I dislike most about these kinds of videos. The sensationalism gets people’s attention, but it’s also used to discredit the ideas. It’s too easy to find a few things wrong with videos like these and subsequently discredit everything else.

For the LDS readers, the BofM teaches us what will happen in the last days (gadiaton robbers, corruption and deception everywhere, etc). If you were to take the Nephite and Lamanite experiences with the gadiaton robbers and put it into a video you might call the video “Freedom to Fascism” and it’d be a lot closer to this video than you might think.

Fortunately, Americans have a lot of ingenuity, and though the fed controls interest rates, and indirectly, a number of other things, we’ve learned to work within this system to get the things done that need to be done. Yeah, it totally sucks that %15 of my income goes towards the federal government because I’m self-employed, and more would if I made money over the poverty limit, but that’s the way it is, and wages have gone up to compensate, and continue to do so. Hooray for inflation. I can’t wait until the value of everything is so high that truly nothing is worth anything.
